JOB ACCOMMODATIONS

The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is a free service of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. JAN consultants have been providing job accommodation information since 1983 when JAN was founded. In addition, JAN consultants have been providing information about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) since 1992 when the ADA went into effect. Over the years, JAN consultants have developed practical ideas to help employees understand the ADA and request and negotiate reasonable accommodations in the workplace

This guide was made possible through a joint effort between clinical professionals, parents, and autistic adults. We believe this collaborative approach to parent education will help families see a new autism diagnosis through a strengths-based lens. More specifically, adding autistic voices to this guide is crucial in helping individuals and families understand the challenges of navigating a neurotypical world as a neurodiverse/neurodivergent individual, and therefore create a more holistic approach to supporting Autistic individuals.

  • Vocational Rehab Resources by State

    State vocational rehabilitation agencies assist individuals with disabilities who are pursuing meaningful careers with training, education, and funding. By contacting your local vocational rehabilitation office, you will tap into a wealth of resources related to employment options for people with disabilities. Vocational rehabilitation (VR), a state-supported division of services, assists individuals with disabilities who are pursuing meaningful careers. VR assists those individuals to secure gainful employment commensurate with their abilities and capabilities through local job searches and awareness of self-employment and telecommuting opportunities.
